I was commissioned by the charity Donate 4 Refugees to do a photo story in Greece on the volunteers working in the refugee crisis and the people they served. These images are a selection from that assignment, with accompanying captions that help tell the story. In 2015 alone, 3, 771 migrants died trying to cross the waters from Turkey to Greece. The crisis, the deaths while crossing and the successful journeys have continued since.

I was commissioned by the charity Donate 4 Refugees to do a photo story in Greece on the volunteers working in the refugee crisis and the people they served. The main focus quickly became the refugees who had themselves become volunteers, working to help others in their community. After working, eating, and laughing with the people I met, and hearing some of their extraordinary and often harrowing stories, I found the trip to the Lifejacket Graveyard in Lesvos to be the experience that struck me the most. The share volume of the jackets and the journey that each represented, and with no way of knowing if each individual jacket represented a successful journey or a life lost - it was a major moment of pause and reflection.
